Governor Stops His Convoy, Arrest Fulani Cows

Just like a drama on Friday afternoon, January 24, when the Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom abruptly stopped his convoy to effect an arrest on cows and their herders.

Recall that the Benue State government passed a bill last year banning open grazing in the state.

The law was passed due to constant clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the state which had led to the death of hundreds

The state has administered the law effectively since it was enacted and the governor took no exceptions when he saw some herders breaking it. He suspended his trip and ordered their arrest.

Recall that Governor Ortom had arrested 150 cows in last year November accused of roaming the streets after had implemented the state’s anti-grazing law by.

The governor, who was on an inspection tour, personally arrested the cows after running into them at Iniongun, Wadata area of Makurdi, the capital of the state.
