After spending three months in Germany for medical attention, Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has returned to Nigeria.
He arrived at his residence in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Thursday, September 7, 20231.
The governor’s wife, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, had announced on her Facebook page that they were “Homebound”. She also shared a picture of the governor inside the airplane he boarded.
Akeredolu had left the country on June 7, 2023, to address his health issues. He was expected to return on July 6, 2023, after his 21-day medical leave. However, he extended his stay in Germany following the advice of his doctors.
The state government had assured the public that Akeredolu was not incapacitated and would resume duty after being certified fit by doctors.
In his absence, his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, had been acting as the governor of the state. Akeredolu is expected to receive briefing from his cabinet members led by Aiyedatiwa on Friday in Ibadan. He will also write to the state House of Assembly before resuming his official duties.
Akeredolu has also congratulated President Bola Tinubu on the verdict of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT), which upheld his victory in the February 25 Presidential Election.
He described the judgment as a revalidation of the people’s mandate and the renewed hope agenda of Tinubu’s administration.
The governor’s return is a welcome development for the people of Ondo state. Akeredolu is a popular and well-respected leader, and his presence will be a boost for the state.
