Gov Oyebanji Launches Free Bus Service for Public Secondary School Students in Ekiti
The Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji has launched a free public secondary school mass transit scheme to help students and their families cope with the rising cost of transportation.
The governor announced the commencement of the Public Secondary School Mass Transit Scheme, which will provide free bus service for public secondary school students in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
The scheme is part of the government’s efforts to ease the transportation burden on parents and civil servants, following the removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government.
The Permanent Secretary of the General Administration Department (GAD), Mr. James Owolabi, disclosed this in a press release on September 15, 2023.
He said that the scheme will start on Monday, September 18, 2023, as the students resume from their long vacation. He added that the civil servant mass transit scheme will continue as usual on its established routes.
Mr. Owolabi explained that the public secondary school students (from JSS1 to SSS3) will enjoy the free bus service on two routes within Ado-Ekiti metropolis, between 6.30 am to 8.00 am and 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm daily.
He advised the students to always wear their school uniforms to identify themselves and benefit from the scheme.
He listed the routes and bus stops of the student’s mass transit as follows:
Route 1: From Atlas Motel; Mobil; Ajilosun; Ijigbo; Old Garage; Okesa; Fajuyi; Adebayo; Housing; Afao Road; Oke Ila: Old Garage; Okesa; to Fajuyi
Route 2: From Poly Road; Erifun; Ureje; Odo Ado; Mathew Street; Old Garage; Okesa; Fajuyi; Pavilion; NTA Road; Ilawe Road; Irona; Ijigbo; Old Garage; Okesa; Fajuyi.
