FUOYE VC Visits Chef Dami, as She Nears World Record for Longest Cooking Marathon

A Nigerian chef, Damilola Adeparusi, is on the verge of making history as she attempts to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

Chef Dammy, who is representing Spirit Word Global Mission, a church that sponsored her attempt, started her culinary challenge on June 8, 2023, at an apartment in Ilupeju-Ekiti, Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State and aims to cook non-stop for 120 hours.

She cooked various dishes ranging from local to continental cuisines, showcasing her skills and creativity.

The current world record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual is 93 hours and 11 minutes, set by Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, in Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria in 2023.

Chef Dammy has already surpassed that mark and has reached 111 hours as of Tuesday, June 13. She still has nine hours to go before she achieves her goal.

The Vice Chancellor of Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Professor Abayomi Fashina Sunday, paid a visit to Chef Dammy on Tuesday to show his support and encouragement.

Chef Dammy expressed her gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and other well-wishers who have been following her progress and cheering her on.

She said she was motivated by her passion for cooking and her desire to put Nigeria on the global map.

She also said she was using the opportunity to showcase the rich and diverse cuisine of Nigeria and Africa.

Chef Dammy has been preparing various dishes from different regions and cultures, such as jollof rice, egusi soup, pounded yam, akara, moi moi, efo riro, okro soup, plantain porridge, coconut rice, pepper soup, and many more.

She has also been donating some of the food to orphanages and less privileged people in the community.

Chef Dammy is expected to complete her cooking marathon on Wednesday, June 14, by 6 am.

She will then have to submit her evidence to Guinness World Records for verification and confirmation

If successful, Chef Dammy will become the second African to hold the record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual after Hilda Baci who confirmed today as the world’s longest cooking marathon.
