Funso Ayeni beats Agboola in rescheduled Ekiti North PDP Senatorial Primary
Prince Funso Ayeni has been declared the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ekiti North Senatorial District rescheduled primary election.
The rescheduled primary was held on Sunday, December 11, at Ido Ekiti, the headquarters of Ido Osi Local Government Area of the state after the court ordered to conduct of a fresh primary.
Recall that Prince Funso Ayeni won the PDP North Senatorial District primary election on May 23, 2022, but the Federal High Court in Ado Ekiti nullified the primary election on Thursday, November 29, saying Ayeni was not validly elected in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.
The presiding judge, Justice Babs Kwewumi ordered the PDP to conduct a fresh primary.
But in the rescheduled primary held on Sunday, Mr Ayeni polled 164 Votes to defeat the only opponent, Hon. Emmanuel Kehinde Agboola scored a total of 7 Votes after the former National Treasurer of the party, Hon Wale Aribisala withdrew from the race.
Newsflash Nigeria learnt the exercise was held amid tight security as operatives of the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Security DSS were on the ground to ensure a hitch-free exercise.
The Exercise was monitored by the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The election which to commence on Saturday but was shifted today due to the late materials arrived in the state.
