Former Military Head of State Yakubu Gowon Is Alive And Well, Says Gbagi

Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi FNIM, OON, a former governorship candidate in Delta State under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has debunked the false news circulating on social media that General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), the former head of state of Nigeria, has passed away.

Gbagi, who served as the Minister of State for Education in the past, issued a statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Orusi Kenneth, on Monday October 9th 2023, condemning the malicious rumor as the “handiwork of mischief makers”.

Gbagi, who is a close friend of Gowon, revealed that the elder statesman is alive and well and currently in London. He said he had just spoken with him and confirmed his well-being.

“General Gowon is still much around with us, hale and hearty. He is not in a hurry to go anywhere. He has communicated to Nigerians that he is still much around, hale and hearty. Gowon is alive”, Gbagi said.

Gbagi urged Nigerians to ignore the fake news about Gowon’s death and pray for his continued good health and long life. He also advised the public to be wary of spreading false information that could cause panic and confusion in the country.
