FG to Sanction Airlines for Unjustified Flight Delays, NCAA Urges Passenger Awareness
The Federal Government, through the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has announced plans to penalize airlines responsible for unnecessary flight delays. The agency has also called on aviation passengers to become more informed about their rights and responsibilities during travel.
Michael Achimugu, Head of Consumer Protection at NCAA, made this known on Saturday during a road walk in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.
Addressing Flight Disruptions in the Peak Travel Season
Achimugu noted that the current period marks the high travel season, with increased flight disruptions and numerous passenger complaints. He emphasized the importance of educating travelers about the causes of these delays and the available solutions.
“We’re now in the high travel season in aviation, and as you know, there have been many flight disruptions and complaints,” Achimugu said.
“Our role at NCAA is to educate passengers because many complaints stem from a lack of understanding about their rights and responsibilities as air travelers. We must protect both the passenger and the airline,” he added.
This move underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent travel experience for all aviation users while addressing operational inefficiencies.
