FG finalises plans for payment of N75,000 to undergraduate teachers

The payment of N75,000 as a stipend per semester to educate students in public universities is set to begin as the federal government has finalised its implementation plans.

Punch reports the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria as saying that details of the payment which also applies to students in federal colleges of education will be made public in January.

TRCN registrar, Josiah Ajiboye, who earlier noted that the current administration had set up a committee consisting of representatives of the council; the National Salaries, Income, and Wages Commission; Head of Service of the Federation, and the education ministry, said every necessary step had been taken.

According to Mr Ajiboye, the TRCN was working with the education ministry and Tertiary Education Trust Fund in the implementation of the plan.

“The ministers involved have prepared the letters and they are working alongside with TETFund. All the necessary things have been done; the details will be unveiled in January,” Mr Ajiboye stated.

Mr Buhari had also October approved N50,000 as a stipend per semester for Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) students.

This, according to the president, is aimed at encouraging people to take up teaching as a profession as well as encouraging excellent service delivery.
