FEMA Rescues Trapped Worker From Collapsed Building In Abuja

A construction worker who was trapped under a collapsed building in the Central Business District area of Abuja has been rescued by the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The incident occurred on Saturday, near Taj Bank, where a building under construction caved in.

The worker, who was a labourer, was working on the first floor of the building when the cast fell on him. He was unable to free himself and his colleagues could not help him either. They alerted FEMA around 4:00 pm, after several hours of futile attempts.

FEMA’s Search and Rescue Team and the FCT Fire Service responded to the distress call and arrived at the scene with extrication equipment and an excavator. They managed to remove the debris and pull out the trapped worker, who was still alive.

The worker was taken to the Trauma Centre of the National Hospital, Abuja, for medical attention.

His condition is not yet known. FEMA’s Head of Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa, confirmed the rescue operation in a statement on Sunday. She said FEMA was committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents of the FCT.
