Fans and Pastor Donate Over N5 Million to Veteran Actress Iya Gbonkan for Car and House

Margaret Olayinka, better known as Iya Gbonkan, is a veteran actress who has starred in many Yoruba movies, especially as a wicked witch. She recently appealed to her fans to celebrate her while she is still alive by buying her a car, as she has never owned one despite her fame and years of working in the industry.

In a viral video, the 64-year-old thespian said that she still uses public transport to move around, and asked her followers not to wait until she is dead to honour her. She also revealed that she was working on a house project that needed funds.

Her plea touched the hearts of many people, including a Nigerian pastor named Gabriel, who watched the video and decided to visit her in Osogbo. He also mobilized funds from kind-hearted people all over the world to make Iya Gbonkan’s dream come true.

According to an Instagram user who shared an update video, the actress has so far received over N5 million from fans and Pastor Gabriel for her car and house project. She was also seen expressing gratitude and praying for those who had supported her.

In the video, Iya Gbonkan spoke in Yoruba, saying, “I’m thankful and I don’t have power, you are my backbone, you will not get tired. My matter will not get you tired and you will not be indebted to the good thing you are doing to me. In the name of God, you will have enough to spend. You will not have pain and in the name of God, you will not go blind.”

The Instagram user also revealed that two other actresses, Abeni Agbon and Tamotiye, who lived nearby also came to pay a visit and received N500K each from Pastor Gabriel.

Iya Gbonkan started her acting career in the early 70s after featuring in Pa Yemi Elebu’bon’s TV series “Ifa Olokun”. She rose to stardom after playing the role of a witch in Yekinni Ajileye’s movies “Koto Orun” and “Koto Aiye”. She got her stage name from one of these movies where she acted as the leader of the occult.

She is married to Duro Ladipo’s younger brother, who is a teacher. They have four children together.
