Fani-Kayode meets APC governors, set to dump PDP
A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, met two governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mai Mala Buni of Yobe and Yahaya Bello of Kogi in Abuja.
Newsflash gathered that Fani-Kayode may return back to the ruling APC six years after he left for the PDP.
Fani-Kayode, a strong critic of the ruling party, left APC for PDP on June 2, 2014.
It was gathered that Fani-Kayode met Governor Mala Buni who is also the Chairman, Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) Gov. Mai Mala Buni and Governor Yahaya Bello at the Guest House in Abuja on Monday.
The closed-door meeting, which lasted for about an hour, was brokered by Bello, who is also chairman of the party’s Mobilisation and Sensitisation Committee for ongoing membership registration and revalidation exercise.
Source at the meeting said the three leaders may have concluded plans for the return of the former Minister to APC.
Fani-Kayode on Sunday night met with Bello in his Wuse Zone 6 residence in Abuja before he led the former Minister to the party chairman’s Guest House.
Confirming his meeting with Kogi Governor, Fani-Kayode on his Twitter page simply wrote: “It was an honor to have spent quality time with my friend & brother Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi state last night. We had a frank, candid, fruitful & productive discussion about the way forward for our country. This is a clear case of politics without bitterness & of building bridges.”
He was however silent on his subsequent meeting with Buni.
Announcing his resignation from APC, the former Minister said, “I wish to inform the general public that as at today, 2nd June 2014, I have left the APC and gone back to the PDP. I wish the APC well in all their endeavours, but as at today, we have parted ways forever and my spirit has left them.”
Meanwhile, Governor Yahaya Bello commended Chief Fani Kayode for visit, describing it as a welcome move.
The governor said the task of nation building is a collective one and that hands must be on deck to ensure that Nigeria remains an indivisible entity.
According to him, all stakeholders must ensure that the fight against insecurity is fought without any ethnic and regional biases.
Bello stated that the support for President Muhammadu Buhari administration in fighting insecurity and poverty in the country must be holistic irrespective of party differences, noting that the All Progressives Congress remains the hope of Nigeria.
Chief Press Secretary to the Kogi State Governor, Onogwu Muhammed, who confirmed the visit in a statement issued on Monday, said FFK was with governor Bello in Abuja Sunday night and Monday morning.
FFK, who described Bello as a phenomenal leader and a bridge builder, said it was an honor to have spent quality time with the governor whom he described as “my friend and brother”.
“We had a very frank, candid, fruitful and productive discussion about the way forward for our country. This is a clear case of politics without bitterness and of building bridges. This is a time that we as Nigerians must all come together as one to save our country,” he said.
Meanwhile, the PDP chieftain according to close sources, had joined the ruling party but there has not been any official statement at press time.
