Experimental COVID-19 drug fails in human beings

Following the new virus, Covid-19, otherwise known as Coronavirus pandemic spread across the globe, the experimental virus treatment drug named ”Remdesivir” has failed in its first randomised clinical trial.

Results of the trial were released on Thursday, April 23, Manila Bulletin reports.

According to a draft summary that went online briefly on the website of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Chinese trial involved 237 patients, with 158 on the drug and 79 in a control group.

Remdesivir was stopped early in 18 patients because of side effects.

After three months, 13.9 percent of the patients on remdesivir had succumbed to the deadly disease compared to 12.8 percent of those in the control group.
