Ex-Governor Cries As Court Sentenced Him To Prison
The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Gudu, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a former Governor of Plateau State and serving senator, Joshua Dariye, to 14 years’ imprisonment on charges of criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of over N1.16bn belonging to the state.
Justice Adebukola Banjoko in a judgment which took her six and a half hours to read convicted the ex-governor on 15 out the 23 counts preferred against him.
The court found Joshua Dariye guilty of misappropriating N1.16 billion Ecological Fund meant for the state. Justice Banjoko also found Senator Joshua Dariye guilty of criminal breach of trust as regards N250 million issued to Pinnacle Communications emanating from the state’s Ecological Fund.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commision (EFCC) made the announcement on its Twitter handle. The development came three weeks after the conviction of ex-Taraba governor, Jolly Nyame for fraud.
