#EndSARS: Many injured, police station burnt as hoodlums attack protesters in Ekiti

The hoodlums bearing cutlasses, sticks and gun attacked the protesters around 12: 45pm at Adebayo area of the state capital where they mounted blockades.

There was pandemonium in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital on Tuesday as the protests against police brutality took a fresh dimension when arm-wielding hoodlums suspected to be commercial drivers attacked the protesters.

The hoodlums bearing cutlasses, sticks and gun attacked the protesters around 12: 45pm at Adebayo area of the state capital where they mounted blockades.

It was gathered that the hoodlums went on rampage to vent their anger against the continued disruption of economic and social activities in the state capital city by the protesters.

The atmosphere was tensed as some of the protesters repelled the hoodlums while others who could not withstand the arm-wielding hoodlums scampered for safety.

The situation grounded to halt economic activities and vehicular movement in the area as motorists, commuters and shop owners had fled the scene to escape being trapped.

Several people including the bystanders sustained varying degrees of injuries in the process.

Meanwhile, suspected hoodlums disguising as #EndSARS protesters on Tuesday set the Afao Police Station, along Ado road in Ikere Ekiti, the headquarters of Ikere Local government Area Ekiti State on fire.

The incident occurred around 10.45 am, according to an eyewitness.

The eyewitness told Newsflash247 that the hoodlums freed the accused person in the cell before they set the police station ablaze.

It was learnt the hoodlums, who were victims of police unethical conduct had earlier blocked some major roads in town before invading the station.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that some of the police officers in the station took to their heels on sighting the irate hoodlums.

When contacted, Spokesman for the Ekiti Police Command, Sunday Abutu said he had not being briefed about the incident.
