El-Rufai plans to sack LG workers – NULGE
The Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has disclosed that there are plans by the Kaduna State government to sack 4,180 local government workers in the state.
Addressing newsmen in Abeokuta on Saturday, NULGE’s National President, Comrade Ibrahim Khaleed, said: “the real reason for this illegality is to downsize in order to get the World Bank loan and plan to sack 4,180 as he (the governor) claimed that only 280 workers should be at each local government.”
He also disclosed that “dead, retired teachers shockingly passed this El-Rufai’s (teacher’s competency) test.”
Khaleed who also doubles as the National Treasurer of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) affirmed that these hidden facts could not be suppressed “as NULGE is going to court to challenge them.”
The NULGE President said it was unfortunate that El-Rufai was dragging President Muhammadu Buhari into the issue, insisting that there was nowhere in the world where 75 percent would be the pass mark of an examination.
He said further: “El-Rufai is all out to downsize, he was never concerned about teachers’ competency in the State because we learned reliably that he was trying to get a loan from the World Bank and one of the conditions for the loan is that he must downsize.”
“We also learned that even dead people and people that had retired long before El-Rufai became the Governor were among the people he claimed passed the competency test.”
Khaleed also revealed that El-Rufai was planning to sack 4,180 Local Government workers because he directed all Local government in the State through a circular that the maximum number of workers that should be in a Local government must be 280 and any Local government with surplus staff should, therefore, disengage them.
“Immediately we got the news about El-Rufai’s plan to sack 21,780 teachers for allegedly failing the competency test and 4,180 Local Government workers, we went to Kaduna and staged a protest. We stated our position clearly and our position is that the Kaduna State government must reverse the decision.”
“El-Rufai is disconnected from the people of the State. He is not concerned about the welfare of the people.”
