Ekiti Suspends Hospital CMD for Allegedly Assaulting His Wife

The Ekiti State Government has suspended the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the State Specialist Hospital, Ikere-Ekiti, Dr Olubiyi Olaolu Abidemi, for allegedly assaulting his wife, Dr (Mrs) Olubiyi Adenike, during a domestic dispute.

Dr Adenike, who is a lecturer at the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, was reportedly hospitalized after suffering a neck injury from the attack by her husband.

According to a statement from the State Ministry of Health and Human Services, the suspension was issued by the State Hospitals Management Board after an investigation revealed that Dr Olubiyi violated the Ekiti Public Service Rules 030301(ii) and 030402(x), which deal with gross misconduct and conduct prejudicial to the security of the state.

The statement said Dr Olubiyi was barred from performing his official duties pending further investigation and was ordered to hand over his duties as CMD of the State Specialist Hospital, Ikere to Dr Akinsipe Catherine Iyabo with immediate effect.

The statement also reiterated the government’s commitment to rewarding excellence, diligence and dedication to duties, but warned that it would not tolerate any breach of the code of conduct for public officers.
