Ekiti Governorship Election : Petition Tribunal Begins Sitting In Abuja, Gives Parties 44 Days To Call Witnesses
The Ekiti State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal commenced its sittings in Abuja today, with parties were given 44 days to call their witnesses.
Proper hearing of the petition filed by the PDP and its candidate, Prof Kolapo Olusola will, however, commence on October 17, 2018.
Of the 44 days allotted to all parties, the petitioners (PDP and Prof Kolapo Olusola) will have 14 days to call their witnesses while the Respondents (APC, Fayemi and INEC) will have 10 days respectively in accordance with the practice direction.
Each of the witnesses is to be examined -in – chief, cross-examined and reexamined if necessary within 10 minutes while star Witnesses and Experts will have seven minutes each.
Also, all applications are to be filled not later than September 27, 2018, while reports on the pre-hearing applications and schedule will be delivered thereafter.
Malam Yusuf Ali (SAN) led the PDP and Prof Kolapo Olusola’s legal team while Chief Charles Uwensuyi Edosomwan (SAN) appeared for the 1st Respondent (INEC), Chief Akin Olujimi (SAN) for the and Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) for Fayemi.
The Tribunal had relocated its sittings to Abuja owing to the invasion of the Ado Ekiti High Court venue of its sittings by APC thugs led by Mentillo and Deji Adesokan (Jaru). The thugs attacked lawyers, court workers and PDP supporters
