Governor Tanko Al-Makura, the Chairman of the Ekiti State Primaries Election Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the indefinite suspension of the primary election.
The Nasarawa State Governor made this known while addressing journalists Saturday night, May 5 in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
He disclosed that the exercise was suspended indefinitely following disruption by some alleged hoodlums.
When asked on how the party would meet up with the May 14th last day for submission of names of candidates, Al-M
His words:” After a successful outing with the accreditation exercise, the voting started and about 6 local government areas had voted when attitudes and conduct of some agents were unruly and erratic. You know the exercise is so important to the APC, it will be necessary we stop. So, for now, we have decided to suspend the primary election until we receive the further directive from the national secretariat of our party.
“Meanwhile, I want to inform our party members and indeed the entire world that what happened today was nothing unusual, especially when we have about 33 persons contesting for a position. I must say Ekiti is for APC and we hope to succeed in the next exercise.
” We can always make up with the situation and we know and aware that May 14th is the last day for submission of names of candidates. Our party will meet up with the date,I can assure you that.”
The voting exercise which commenced at about 2:40 pm was disrupted by some suspected hoodlums who alleged of some irregularities in the process.
Moba, Ekiti East, Ado, Ilejemeje and Efon out of the 16 local government areas of the state had voted before the exercise was disrupted.
