Ekiti 2022: Five PDP aspirants to face appeal panel for governorship election
The five Ekiti governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have to face the Screening Appeals Panel on Tuesday, November 23 after disqualifying them from participating January 28, 2022 party Guber primary election.
The Ekiti governorship Screening Committee of the PDP disqualified five aspirants from vying for a position in the Ekiti governorship at the forthcoming party primary election.
Those disqualified are, Mrs Olumide Ojo Olukemi Olubunmi from Ido Osi Local government, Mrs Asaolu Modupe Olarewaju from Ekiti South West Local government, Mrs Cecillia Ebiesuwa from Emure Local government Area and Princess Adewumi Adesoye from Ado Local government Area while Princess Titilayo Owolabi Akerele from Ikole Local government area didn’t attend the screening.
The screening committee was headed by the former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi vetted all the 17 governorship aspirants for January 28, 2022.
According to the report, 12 aspirants were cleared to contest at the party primary while 4 were disqualified and one did not attend the screening.
Newsflash Nigeria understands that five disqualified aspirants were female.
Some of the aspirants cleared include the former governor of the state, Segun Oni; former deputy governor, Kolapo Olusola Eleka; Immediate past state chairman of the party, Bisi Kolawole; a serving Senator, Biodun Olujimi; outgoing National Treasure of the party, Wale Aribisala; Former GMD bank, Kayode Adaramodu; a Lagos-based businessman and senatorial aspirant of the party in 2014, Lateef Ajijola and Otunba Yinka Akerele.
Others are 2018 PDP deputy governorship candidate, Deji Ogunsakin; a former Tutor General in Ekiti State, Chief (Mrs) Arogundade Oluwatoyin Anike, the 2019 House of Representatives aspirant, Princess Adekemi Adewumi and Mrs Deborah Alo.
Meanwhile, the party has set up the Screening Appeals Panel to examine the complaints arising from the screening of aspirants for the June 18, 2022, Ekiti governorship election.
In a statement released by the party’s National Organizing Secretary, Col. Austin Akobundu.
The Appeals Committee is slated to sit on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at the National Working Committee (NWC) hall, PDP national secretariat, Abuja at 10 am.
All aspirants, critical stakeholders and members of our party in Ekiti are by guided accordingly.
