Fayose leads Bisi Kolawole to Ekiti monarch’s palace

Ahead of the 2022 governorship election in Ekiti State, the former governor of the state, Ayodele Fayose, led the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his preferred governorship candidate, Otunba Bisi Kolawole to the palace of Efon Alaaye on Sunday evening.

Newsflash Nigeria had reported that the former governor, Ayo Fayose, had endorsed Otunba Bisi Kolawole, the incumbent Chairman of PDP in the state as his preferred candidate for the 2022 governorship election.

Kolawole, from Efon Alaaye in the Ekiti Central Senatorial District, was a former House of Assembly member from 2007 to 2011 and Commissioner for Environment under the administration of Fayose between 2015 and 2018.

Fayose who stormed the Efon-Alaaye on Sunday evening and received by the party chairman, his wife, Efon local government PDP chairman, Yemi Ajanaku and other party chieftains of the town.

Fayose was led by party chieftains to the palace of Efon- Alaaye, Oba Samuel Adeniran Asusumasa Atewogboye II and presented Bisi Kolawole to the Monarch.

Thereafter, the former governor move to the venue of the event and announced the endorsement of Kolawole to the Efon Alaaye community.

He begged the community to support him.

Meanwhile, the Director of Media and Publicity of Bisi Kolawole Campaign Organization, Lere Olayinka, said the campaign organization will visit Ekiti West Local Govt, Aramoko Ekiti on Monday, May 3, 2021 at 1pm.

He said the official commissioning of the campaign office of the organization and presentation of vehicles to coordinators will take place in Ado Ekiti on Monday, May 3, 2021 at 3pm.

Though, the choice of Kolawole had polarised the party that is battling a raging factional crisis between the group loyal to Fayose and the group loyal to the lawmaker representing Ekiti South in the Senate, Senator Biodun Olujimi.

The Olujimi faction led by Kehinde Odebunmi has taken the battle to reclaim the party structure to the Supreme Court after the High Court and the Appeal Court had validated the Fayose’s group led by Kolawole as the authentic executives of the party.

The endorsement put the former governor against the ambitions of the likes of former Governor Segun Oni, who recently made an open declaration; 2018 governorship candidate, Professor Kolapo Olusola Eleka who was said to have indicated an interest in the plum job.

The development according to feelers from the camps of the opposition party is already causing crisis as many members are surprised with the decision of the former governor.

While some threw their weight behind Kolawole, others maintained that it was premature for the ex-governor to jump the gun in a bid to foist his crony on the party warning of a repeat of the 2018 defeat to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which they partly blamed on the alleged imposition of Professor Eleka.

Bisi Kolawole remains the State Chairman of PDP until such a time the PDP headquarters releases the guidelines for Ekiti PDP primaries and until Kolawole obtains his gubernatorial nomination forms.

Kolawole will resign a few days to the primaries in accordance with the PDP constitution.
