Ekiti 2018: Aggrieved PDP, APC, other parties set to join Obasanjo Coalition for Nigeria

The aggrieved members of the Ekiti State Chapter of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party,PDP and the main opposition All Progressives Congress, APC and are said to be considering Obasanjo’s platform called the Coalition for Nigeria to achieve their political goals in the 2018 governorship election.
The Coalition for Nigeria, a third-force political group being championed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, appears to be a major platform that has continued to attract prominent members in Ekiti State.

One of the aggrieved governorship aspirants, who spoke to one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity for fear of persecution, said it was becoming clear that many of them would be denied electoral tickets by their parties and the option was to consider Coalition for Nigeria.

The PDP governorship aspirants such Prince Dayo Adeyeye, Ambassador Dare Bejide, Senator Biodun Olujimi and the prominent leaders of the PDP, Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, Serving senator from Ekiti Central Senatorial District are set to join Coalition for Nigeria (CN).

Also, APC governorship aspirants such as Chief Segun Oni, Yinka Akerele, Senator Ayo Arise, Senator Gbenga Aluko, Hon Olufemi Bamisile, Muyiwa Olumilua and many members of the APC caucus, especially those who crossed from the PDP ahead of the 2014 Ekiti election are set to join Coalition for Nigeria.

“This will happen because many APC governorship aspirants would not be given a ticket to contest and they would likely join the third force

Governorship aspirants for other parties such as former deputy governor of the state, Chief Abiodun Aluko, former serving senator, Bode Olowoporoku are likely to join the Coalition for Nigeria.

The coalition, which is due for launch January, 31 is currently being coordinated by a former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

A Source confirmed that the unnamed party would the user to execute the agenda of the coalition.

A Source gathered that the mass defection from the APC and the PDP loomed, especially the Ekiti State governorship aspirants and there is most likely to be defections from the APC and PDP in the next one month.

The source gathered that there are people in the APC who are not comfortable with the party; there are those in the PDP who are not comfortable with the party also. So, most likely, these would be the forces that would form the third force.

Obasanjo had, in his controversial ‘special press statement’ on Tuesday titled, ‘The Way Out: A clarion call for the coalition for Nigeria Movement’, dismissed the chances of the two main political parties in the country from salvaging Nigeria.

He also called and pledge his support for the formation of a ‘third force’ to be known as Coalition for Nigeria.

Obasanjo had said, “We need a Coalition for Nigeria. Such a movement at this juncture needs not be a political party but one to which all well-meaning Nigerians can belong.

“That movement must be a coalition for democracy, good governance, social and economic well-being and progress.

“A coalition to salvage and redeem our country; you can count me with such a movement.”

The source gathered that politicians were now ‘targeting’ persons they believed were “neutral” and free from any affinity to the ruling PDP and the APC to assume the leadership of the state.

“Neutrality is important because both the APC and the PDP have been tried, but the much-anticipated change has also failed to come,”.
