The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released the Ekiti state Finance commissioner, Toyin Ojo and Accountant-General, Yemisi Owolabi.
EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren confirmed this on Wednesday.
Background:
- The EFCC had arrested the officials over alleged misappropriation of the Paris Club refund.
- The agency said they were arrested following their refusal to honour the commission’s invitation.
- The officials were arrested in Abuja, at the time the governor of the state, Ayodele Fayose was declaring his intention to run for presidency in 2019.
What is happening:
Governor Ayodele Fayose’s special assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, also confirmed their release.
He said, ‘’They were released in Abuja after they had scrambled fruitlessly for non-existent shreds of evidence with which to prosecute them.
“If they had anything against the Ekiti government officials, I’m sure they would have made a show of the entire matter in the courts.”
