EFCC Operatives Clash with Staff and Students of Federal College of Forestry in Ibadan, College Shut Down
The management of the Federal College of Forestry in Ibadan has announced the closure of the institution until further notice. This is due to the clash that broke out between the college staff and students and some operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday.
According to a statement by Dele Oyewale, the EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, seven operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Command of the commission were on a routine verification exercise of a surety, Azeez Kazeem Oluwakemi, who stood for Alakinde Khalid Kolawole, a suspected internet fraudster in the EFCC custody.
The operatives were in the college to verify the address and identity of Oluwakemi, but they were attacked and held hostage by the college staff and students.
Oyewale stated that the college community was aware of the mission of the EFCC team, but they still launched a frenzied attack on them. He said that the operatives were rescued by the intervention of the police.
The Public Relations Officer of the college, Mr Kehinde Olawale, confirmed to newsmen that the college had been shut down as a result of the incident. He said that they had lodged a complaint at Eleyele Police Station and sent a circular to the students. He added that they did not want to see any student for now until the tension was calmed down.
