EFCC Dismisses Two Staff Over Corruption Allegations, Vows Prosecution
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the dismissal of two staff members over allegations of corruption.
The Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, revealed this during the opening of the 6th Annual Criminal Law Review Conference organized by the Rule of Law Development Foundation in Abuja.
According to Olukoyede, the staff members were dismissed two weeks ago, and the Commission intends to prosecute them as part of ongoing reforms to ensure accountability within the organization.
“So many reforms are underway, including addressing issues concerning our staff,” Olukoyede stated. “Two weeks ago, I authorized the dismissal of two staff members. You cannot fight corruption with unclean hands. He who comes to equity must come with clean hands.
“I have also resolved that dismissed staff will face prosecution, as their actions are the same offenses for which we prosecute others. We are currently preparing case files for some of those we’ve dismissed,” he added.
Olukoyede further highlighted the importance of integrity in fighting corruption, sharing that he himself underwent a two-year investigation during his tenure as EFCC Secretary.
“To survive in this field, especially as legal practitioners, integrity is non-negotiable,” he said.
Additionally, the EFCC Chairman disclosed that he had issued a directive limiting prosecutions to a maximum of 15 charges per case, emphasizing efficiency in the Commission’s legal processes.
