Edo Guber: Obaseki, Igbinedon, Ikimi, Others Meet Over Decamp Moves
Godwin Obaseki has marched on with his plans to decamp from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party with another closed-door meeting held recently in the residence of the Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, which had in attendance Chief Tom Ikimi and Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
The governor who is increasingly aware that he lacks the popularity and influence to secure another ticket on the platform of the ruling party is holding these meetings to get another party platform and placate the fears of some PDP members who are wary of letting him into their fold.
A source at the meeting told Newsflash247 that some section of the PDP leaders are skeptical about the plans to let Obaseki run on their platform considering his renowned treachery and insincerity. They consider him as a highly ungrateful person who may eventually stab them in the back once he gets the opportunity he seeks.
Another meeting has been slated for next week at the residence of Tom Ikimi in Abuja and former Minister Mike Onolememen has been invited to take part in the meeting, as the party weighs its options.
Meanwhile, in the state, Obaseki has commenced consultations starting from his ward where he met with 12 Councilors in his Oredo LG on Monday, familiarizing them with his plans to decamp from the APC and seeking their support.
He is expected to meet next with ward chairmen in the same LG, and from there, embark on a tour of the entire 18 LGAs in Edo state.
The meeting with the Councilors reportedly ended with the Governor giving them 50,000 naira each with promises of more should they back his decamp plans and possibly leave with him to the opposition party.
