Edo: Gov Obaseki reacts after attack at Oshiomhole’s residence

Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has spoke about the incident occurred after his convoy was pelted with stones at the residence of the former governor of Edo State and currently the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

Obaseki said that he would continue to pursue peaceful resolution of whatever disagreement exists within the ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, Edo Deputy Governor,Hon Philip Shaibu and some dignitaries were in the convoy of Obaseki when the attack took place.

They were at Oshiomole’s Iyamho residence on invitation by Oshiomhole after they attended the first convocation of Edo University, Iyamho.

The thugs had gathered at the entrance of Oshiomhole’s house and vowed that Obaseki and his Deputy would not be allowed to enter.

Several vehicles were smashed by the thugs but nobody was injured in the attack.

It took the efforts of security agencies to prevent blood bath at Oshiomhole’s residence.

Governor Obaseki, who spoke to newsmen after leaving Oshiomhole’s house, described the incident as unfortunate

“It is really unfortunate that we can’t feel safe at the house of our national chairman.

“I am not sure that if I went to the house of the National Chairman of the People’s Democractic Party, they will attack me the way they did in the house of our chairman.

“It is really unfortunate that thing has degenerated to this extent but we will continue to pursue peace and we cannot afford to lose the gains of the last three years”.

Sources closed to Oshiomole said he was inside his room when he got wind of the attack.

But before he came out of the house, the governor and his entourage had already gone.

The source said Oshiomole was furious when he heard of the development and all efforts by him for his expected guests to return failed.

Efforts to speak with the Edo Police spokesman, DSP Chidi Nwanbuzor, were unsuccessful as calls put across to him were not answered.
