DSS Joins Social Media Handles, Declare Old Ones Fake

The Department of State Security Services (DSS) officially joined social media for the first time on March 6, 2023.

Before now, there have been social media handles using the name of the DSS on different social media platforms. However, a statement from the DSS earlier today declared all those accounts fake as it was not operated by the service.

In a statement issued by the DSS spokesperson, Dr Peter Afunanya, in Abuja on Monday, the service said it now operates accounts on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

The statement entitled: “DSS Social Media Handles Debut”, noted that the service decided to have social media presence to enhance public and stakeholder engagements.

The social media handles of the DSS which were launched today are: Twitter: @OfficialDSSNG; Facebook: OfficialDSSNG; and Instagram: @OfficialDSSNG.

The DSS spokesperson said, “Department of State Services (DSS) hereby informs the public that it has created Social Media handles which are as follows:

Twitter : @OfficialDSSNG

Facebook : OfficialDSSNG

Instagram : @OfficialDSSNG

 “Similarly, the PRO’s Twitter handle is @DrAfunanya_PNA . Hitherto, the Service did not own or operate these handles. Its decision to operate them with effect from 6th March 2023 is to enhance public and stakeholder engagements.

“The public should be guided and NOTE that any such handles before now were/are FAKE, please.”
