DSS Arrests Rivers Monarch Over Alleged Involvement In DPO’s Murder
The Department of State Services (DSS) has detained the King of Akoh Kingdom in Rivers State, His Royal Majesty Eze Ikegbidi, over his alleged connection to the brutal killing of a senior police officer.
The officer, Bako Angbashim, was the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada, and he was beheaded by suspected cultists on Friday night while leading his men on an operation in the area.
The DSS operatives arrested Ikegbidi on Monday, shortly after the State Governor, Siminilayi Fubara, suspended him indefinitely for allegedly allowing a notorious cult leader, David Gift, also known as 2-Baba, and his gang to operate freely and commit crimes in his domain.
The Governor also announced a N100,000,000 reward for anyone who can provide information that would lead to the arrest and prosecution of 2-Baba, who is the prime suspect in the DPO’s murder.
The DSS later transferred Ikegbidi to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt, the State capital, for further questioning.
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest but said she did not have more details. She promised to update the public on the development later.
