Davido’s Poster Burnt by Angry Muslim Youths in Borno Over Controversial Music Video
Nigerian singer Davido has sparked outrage among some Muslim youths in Borno State, who burnt his poster in protest of his controversial music video clip that he shared on his Twitter account last week.
The video clip was a teaser for the new song “Jaye Lo” by Logos Olori, a new signee of Davido’s record label, DMW.
The video clip showed some men wearing white jalabiya, a traditional Muslim attire, dancing and reciting Quranic verses in front of a mosque-like structure.
Many Muslims, including Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, slammed Davido for disrespecting their religion and culture.
They accused him of mocking their prayer and sacred rituals, and demanded that he should delete the video and apologize to his Muslim fans.
Davido, who is known for his cheerful and generous personality, deleted the video from his social media platforms on Monday, following the backlash.
However, that did not appease some Muslim youths in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, who took to the streets on Tuesday to express their anger and displeasure.
In a video that went viral on social media, the youths are seen setting ablaze a poster of Davido and chanting slogans against him. They also called on him to apologize to the Muslim community for his insensitive act.
Davido, who has been in the music industry for over a decade, is one of the most popular and influential Afrobeats artists in Nigeria and Africa.
He has released several hit songs and albums that have won him numerous awards and accolades. He is also known for his collaborations with other artists across different genres and regions, such as Summer Walker, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Nas, Young Thug, Popcaan, and many others.
He recently released his fourth studio album, Timeless, which features guest appearances from Drake, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, and others.
Davido has not yet responded to the latest protest or issued any statement regarding the controversial music video clip. It is unclear whether he will apologize or ignore the incident.
However, some of his fans have defended him and urged him not to succumb to the pressure. They argued that the video clip was not meant to offend anyone, but rather to promote a new song and artist. They also praised him for his creativity and versatility in exploring different sounds and styles.
