The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced that it generated N74.28 billion as revenue from imports at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Command in Lagos between January and October 2023.
The command also seized unregistered pharmaceutical products suspected to be tramadol tablets worth N3.55 billion imported from Pakistan and India.
The Customs Area Comptroller, Muhammed Yusuf, disclosed this at a briefing on Wednesday, November 15.
He said that the command recorded a 23 percent increase in revenue collection compared to the same period in 2022, when it collected N60.05 billion. He attributed the achievement to the diligence of the officers in ensuring proper declarations and adherence to import/export guidelines.
Yusuf also revealed that the command intercepted a shipment of tramadol tablets that exceeded the approved threshold by the federal government. He said that the seizure was made possible by the intelligence and vigilance of the officers.
He added that the duty paid value of the seized items was N3.55 billion.
He commended the Controller General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, for providing an enabling environment for the command.
He also thanked the officers and men of the command for their dedication and professionalism. He urged them to remain focused and steadfast in discharging their duties.
