Cult groups’ crash: Two feared dead in Ekiti as Council chairman imposes dusk to dawn curfew

Palpable fear has engulfed residents of Ikere-Ekiti, the headquarters of Ikere local government area of Ekiti State following the death of another two persons killed on Tuesday night by a cult clash.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Monday night when one of the cult groups was shot dead at Ayetoro/Odo Oro Street, Oke’kere area of the town.

Newsflash Nigeria revealed that second person was also shot dead on Tuesday night near the Special School for Blind, Oke-Osun area of the town.

This incident occurred exactly a month when the cult groups killed about eight persons in the town.

Newsflash Nigeria had reported that no fewer than seven persons were feared killed on Sunday, April 18, during a clash between two cult groups in the town.

Although the cause of the violence was still unknown at the time of filling this report, but a resident of the town said two persons had been killed since another attack started on Monday night after a month that about seven were feared killed in the town.

The suspected cultists were said to have gone on a shooting spree leaving the community area scampered for safety.

These killings have throwing the town into confusing and various stakeholders have called in the government to find a lasting solution to the situation.

Meanwhile, the Ikere local Government, Hon Oluwafemi Ayodele, popularly known as Otunba, declared a dusk to dawn curfew in the town, owing to the continuous killings in the local government.

Newsflash Nigeria reveals that the Chairman, Ikere Local Government has announced on account of security challenges in Ikere that a 6:00 pm to 6:00 am curfew should be declared within Ikere town as from effective today, Wednesday, 19th May, 2021.

The chairman called on the people of the town to abide by the curfew as security personnel had been drafted to deal with recalcitrant persons who may wish to forment trouble, saying anyone caught violating the order would face the consequences.

“In view of the rising killings among the suspected cultists in lkere Local Government, the leadership of the Council has now imposed curfew from 6pm to 6am from today, Wednesday, May 19, 2021 to Sunday, May 23, 2021, to curtail this ugly act.

“This step is necessary following the killing of two people in lkere-Ekiti by suspected cultists on Tuesday 18h May 2021.

“This is to therefore call on the good people of lkere Local Government to adhere strictly to this instruction as security personnel will severely dealt with anyone arrested violating this order”, the statement reads in part.

Also speaking on the development, the spokesman of the Police Command in Ekiti, ASP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident, saying investigation had commenced and that security had been intensified in the area to forestall breakdown of law and order.
