COVID-19: Seven die in 24 hours as Nigeria records 834 new cases
According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), seven deaths were recorded due to COVID-19 complications in the last 24 hours.
Nigeria recorded 838 new cases of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in 15 states and FCT and seven deaths within 24 hours.
The country made the announcement on Sunday evening.
According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), seven deaths were recorded due to COVID-19 complications in the last 24 hours.
“NCDC also recorded 838 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Sunday”.
This brings the total cases in Nigeria to 84,414 and 1,254 fatalities since the pandemic began.
As at Saturday, Nigeria recorded 1247 total deaths. However, the confirmation of seven deaths on Sunday has increased the rate to 1254.
The health agency also confirmed the discharge of 539 patients from isolation centres across the country, bringing the total recoveries to 71,034.
NCDC noted that 838 new cases were reported in 15 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
FCT reported the highest number of new cases with 297 cases, while Lagos State recorded 253

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has rolled out new travel rules for passengers coming in from South Africa and the United Kingdom which takes effect from Monday, December 28.
This is as a result of the discovery of a new variant of COVID-19 in these countries.
During a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, December 24, the National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force (PTF), Dr Sani Aliyu, said all passengers coming from both countries must use the Nigerian international travel portal to register.
He disclosed that passengers will be required to fill in the health questionnaire and upload a negative COVID-19 result with a validity of not more than five days.
