Covid-19: List of States with Confirmed Coronavirus Cases in Nigeria

Eleven States and Abuja have been confirmed in Nigeria since the first case of Coronavirus disease was reported in Nigeria with at least one case.

Nigeria recorded its first case of Covid-19 after an Italian national tested positive to the virus on February 27.

As of Sunday morning, Nigeria has recorded 97 cases, including one death.

The disease has caused the death of over 20,000 people globally.

States with confirmed cases

Following the confirmation of eight new cases on Saturday, eleven states and Abuja in Nigeria now have at least one case.

The states are:

  1. Lagos- 59 cases,
  2. FCT – 16,
  3. Oyo – 7
  4. Ogun – 3,
  5. Ekiti-1,
  6. Rivers-1,
  7. Edo-2,
  8. Bauchi-2,
  9. Osun-2.
  10. Benue-1
  11. Kaduna -1
  12. Enugu -2

Lagos State, which has the highest number of confirmed cases in the country, has directed that all markets selling non-essential products or life-saving items should close.

The governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, gave the directive  as part of new measures to curb the spread of coronavirus in the state.

So far, most of the infected people are those who have recently returned to the country from high-risk countries.

More cases of COVID-19 are still expected to be reported in the country.

The government has intensified contact tracing to track those who might have been in contact with the infected people, some of whom have already found and tested positive to the virus.

Three government officials have so far tested positive for the virus.

Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, was the first to test positive. The governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, is the second senior government official to test positive for the virus.

The governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, is the third senior government official to test positive for the virus

Many other top officials have also commenced self-isolation.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, on Sunday, March 29, will broadcast to the nation on Sunday evening.

According to the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President, Femi Adesina, said the president Buhari, broadcast, scheduled for 7pm, will be on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).

He urged all television, radio and other electronic media outlets to connect to the network.
