COVID-19: Lagos Government Seals off Central Mosque over disobeying order

Following the Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had adopted a number of measures in the wake of the outbreak and continued spread of Coronavirus in the country, the State Government on Thursday, April 2, has sealed the Agege Central Mosque for violating its ban on public gathering.

Recall that in the early hours of Thursday, there was a clash between some worshippers at the Agege Central Mosque and members of the task force monitoring the compliance with ban on large gatherings.

The officials were reportedly attacked while trying to ensure compliance with the ban.

“The Lagos State COVID-19 Taskforce, mandated by LASG to monitor and enforce compliance against public gatherings exceeding 25 people, was on Thursday attacked by some Muslim worshippers at the Agege Central Mosque,” the Lagos state official handle had tweeted.

Meanwhile, the state government has sealed off the Agege Central Mosque following a clash between some worshippers and members of the task force monitoring the compliance with ban on large gatherings.

In a statement disclosed on Thursday evening by the Executive Assistant to Lagos State governor on New Media, Olusegun Fafore, said that the decision was taken because more than 20 persons were found inside the mosque at the time officials visited the place.

Recall that Lagos and other state governments across the country had adopted a number of measures in the wake of the outbreak of Coronavirus including closing schools, shutting land borders and placing a ban on public gathering to a limited number of persons.

On Sunday, President Muhammadu Buhari during a broadcast announced the total lockdown of Lagos, Ogun and FCT as part of new measures to curb the spread of the pandemic.

Nigeria so far has 174 confirmed cases of the virus and two recorded deaths.
