COVID-19: Labour Minister, Keyamo sends message to DSTV, MTN, others

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, on Monday, March 30, has sent the message to DSTV, MTN and other telecommunication companies, to support the fight against COVID-19, otherwise known as Coronavirus.

The Minister urged direct broadcast satellite service providers and telecoms companies, to support the fight against COVID-19, otherwise known as Coronavirus.

In a series of tweets on Monday, Keyamo pleaded with DSTV and Star Times to extend existing subscriptions by one month.

“As one of the Ministers entrusted with the welfare of Nigerian workers, I politely urge @DStvNg & @StarTimes_Ng to extend all EXISTING subscriptions by at least one month, free-of-charge, as their own contribution to ease the pains of Nigerian workers at this time of lockdown,” he wrote.

Keyamo also asked the major telecommunication companies, to give out some tokens of airtime and data, to help Nigerians stay connected during the lockdown.

“I would also urge @MTNNG @9mobileng @AirtelNigeria @GloWorld to consider giving Nigerians some token airtime and data to ease their pains and to ensure that communication with individuals & authorities is ensured in cases of emergencies, especially when toll-free numbers are busy,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), on Monday evening, March 30, had announced the confirmation of another 20 news cases of COVID-19, otherwise known as Coronavirus in the country.

NCDC made the announcement Monday evening on its official twitter account.

With the new 20 cases, Nigeria now has 131 confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease.

A tweet on the NCDC’s official Twitter handle, said nine of the new cases were recorded in Lagos State and five in Abuja.

“Twenty new cases of #COVID19 have been reported in Nigeria; 13 in Lagos, 4 in FCT, 2 in Kaduna and 1 in Oyo State

“As at 09:00 pm 30th March there is 131 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria with 2 deaths”
