Court sentences businessman to 8 months in prison for stealing mobile phones
An Upper Area Court I, sitting in Kasuwan Nama in Jos on Wednesday, sentenced a 20-year-old businessman, Mohammed Sagir to eight months in prison for stealing two Techno phones, valued at N65, 000.
The police charged Sagir with three counts of trespass, shop breaking, mischief and theft
The judge, Lawal Suleiman who sentenced Sagir, gave him an option to pay a fine of N6,000.
He also ordered the convict to pay N15000 to the complainant, saying it would serve as deterrent to others who would want to indulge in such acts.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported on Sept. 22, at the Laranto Police station by one Mohammed Sanusi of Katako Gareji Laranto , who is the complainant.
Gokwat said that the accused broke into the shop and stole two Techno phones valued at N65, 000.
He said that the phones were recovered from the accused during police investigation.
After arraignment, he pleaded guilty to the offence .
Gokwat said that offence contravened the provisions of sections 342, 347, 326 and 288 of the penal code law.
