Court remands three people for killing 78-year-old woman washing her clothes in Ekiti
The defendants, Alex Peter, 25; Adeniyi Tosin, 25; and Adelola Adedapo, 23, were charged by the state police command on two counts of conspiracy to murder and murder.
An Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Monday, remanded three men in a correctional centre over killed a 78-year-old woman, Mrs Abiodun Arannilewa, in Ikere Ekiti, Ikere local government of the state.
The widow and mother of five was abducted from her house, while washing her clothes at the Moshood area of the town and her body was later found by a stream with her throat slit.
The defendants, Alex Peter, 25; Adeniyi Tosin, 25; and Adelola Adedapo, 23, were charged by the state police command on two counts of conspiracy to murder and murder.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leramo, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on May 29, 2020.
Leranmo stated, “The defendants conspired among themselves and murdered a 78-year-old woman, Abiodun Arannilewa.
“The defendants murdered the deceased and disposed her body in a canal near her house. The offences contravene sections 324 and 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.”

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendants in a correctional centre pending legal advice from office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The court did not take the plea of the defendants.
Chief Magistrate Abdulhamid Lawal ordered the remand of the defendants in the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti, pending the issuance of the legal advice.
Lawal adjourned the case till July 22 for mention.
The eldest child of the deceased, Pastor Eleyitope Arannilewa, who deplored the manner in which his mother was murdered, said the family was looking forward to justice in the matter.
“My mother needs justice; her blood is crying. What every member of the family wants is justice,” he stated.
