Court Remands Oyo Monarch, 14 Others over Land Grabbing
An Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso has ordered the detention of the Oloko of Oko, Oba Solomon Akinola, and 14 others at Abolongo Custodial Centre for their alleged involvement in violent attacks, attempted murder, and land grabbing.
The court gave the order on Wednesday after the state counsel, I. O. Abdulazeez, reported that the defendants had attacked the complainant, Dr Isaac Abiodun, again at Aagba village.
The defendants, who are facing a 10-count charge bordering on conspiracy, assault, malicious damage, and attempted murder, include Chief Sunday Aderinto, Chief Jimoh Asimiyu, Timothy Aderinto, Matthew Akintaro, Rafiu Ganiu, and Adejare Adeleru. Others are Samson Ogunmola, Zachiaus Adeleru, Kamorudeen Ajibade, Raji Rasaq, Mutiu Arowosaye, Oyeyemi Oyelekan, Olusegun Oyelekan, and Sheriff Adio.
Justice K.A. Adedokun expressed displeasure at the latest attack on Abiodun, who is the owner of a large expanse of land at Aagba village.
The judge said that the defendants had shown no respect for the court and the rule of law by continuing to harass and intimidate the complainant.
He ordered that the defendants be remanded in custody and adjourned the case till November 27 for hearing of their bail application.
