Court Nullifies Olaoye’s Installation as Soun of Ogbomoso, Orders Fresh Selection
Oba Ghandi Olaoye has been removed as the Soun of Ogbomoso by the Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso. The court declared his installation as illegal and ordered a new selection process for the traditional ruler.
The judgement was delivered on a suit filed by Kabir Laoye, one of the aspirants for the Soun stool.
Laoye challenged Olaoye’s eligibility and appointment, claiming that he did not meet the criteria for the position.
The court upheld Laoye’s claim and nullified Olaoye’s appointment. It also restrained the Oyo State Government from appointing anyone to the Soun stool until after its ruling.
Olaoye was announced as the new Soun by the Oyo State Government on September 8, 2023, and he was installed on the same day. His installation was met with protests and controversies by some indigenes of Ogbomoso who rejected him as their monarch.
