Church Tithing Controversy: Pastor Adeboye Reacts Angrily To Daddy Freeze, Nathaniel Bassey Too
Popular gospel singer and the initiator of the #halleluyahChallenge, a midnight praise, and worship session, Nathaniel Bassey, has said he believes in tithing regardless of the session of the bible that supports the doctrine.
Mr. Bassey weighed into the controversial subject through a post on his Instagram handle where he opined that it does not matter whether the doctrine of tithing is from the old testament or the new testament but he loves “God too much to argue about one small fraction of what he has blessed me with”.
In the post which has been liked by over thirty-four thousand people, the gospel singer said “Tithing – Whether Old or New Testament o, or whether under the law or under Grace o, COUNT ME IN.
He said God send his only son to die for him and such sacrifice was not 10%, which is the percentage of income required to be paid as tithe, but 100%
He went further to quote Malachi 3 verse 10, a portion of the Old Testament that supports tithing.
“10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it” – Malachi 3:10.
Mr. Bassey said; “Tithing, A key to an OPEN HEAVEN as we have been speaking about. I believe it is offered to God through our local Assembly. i.e, where we are planted and fed. And from my little understanding and observation, no genuine Ministry forces people to do so, even though they may encourage their congregation to give it. But Truth is, at the end of the day, it’s really a matter of LOVE & HONOUR.
“For God so loved the world that He GAVE…” True love always gives. My name is Nathaniel Bassey, and I unapologetically believe in tithing. Plus At the end of the day, this is my Instagram handle. “Also, the leader of the Redeemed Christain Church of God, Pastor E.A Adeboye has angrily reacted to Daddy Freeze’s video in an interview granted SaharaTV that congregants in churches are not required to give tithes.
Pastor Adeboye who appeared angry at the position of Daddy Freeze, said his attention was drawn to how Daddy Freeze said congregants should buy alcohol to drink with their tithes in churches , he said even “mad people” don’t go to church to drink alcohol.
However, Ifedapo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze who has been very vocal in condemning prosperity preaching pastors and tithing, responded to the gospel artist, challenging him to show where tithe was collected by the progenitors of Christianity.
He also said the portion of the Bible quoted by the singer does not apply to Christians but priests in the then old dispensation of Christianity.
Daddy Freeze who calls himself the leader of #FreeNation movement sticks Mr. Bassey for basing his argument on emotions rather than biblical facts.
Mr. Olarinde wrote on his Instagram handle; “Dear Nathaniel, Peace be upon you! The leader of the #FreeNation greets you and brings glad tidings.
“I have two questions I’d like you to address.
1: why do you use emotions and raise sentiments, instead of using biblical facts to support your argument on tithing? I’m sure a Bible verse showing where OUR FIRST PASTORS, THE 12 DISCIPLES, COLLECTED TITHES would serve more to buttress our belief systems, than mere statements like “me I tithe o
“Secondly, you quoted Mal3:10 this verse was a commandment to the priests not to us and if you took time out to read Mal 3:12 that promises a Delightsome land as a reward for tithing, you will realize that there is a HUGE problem. 51% of the Nigerian population is Christian, more than the Muslim population at the last count. Look around you do you see a Delightsome land, despite the almost 100million Christians residing in Nigeria, a vast majority of whom are tithers?”
Last week, the on air personality also told Saharareporters in an exclusive interview that he is after prosperity pastors because he has not seen a Muslim cleric who owns a private jet.
He accused many Pentecostal pastors of enriching themselves with the tithes paid by their members who are largely peasants that can hardly.
