Church Cancels Wedding Over Pregnancy, But Couple Weds in Another Church
It was supposed to be a joyous occasion for Mr Israel Kennedy and his bride, former Miss Rose, who had planned to tie the knot in an Assemblies of God Church at 158 Ikot Ekpene Road in Aba, Abia State.
However, their dream wedding turned into a nightmare when the church cancelled their ceremony at the last minute, citing the bride’s pregnancy as a violation of the church’s rules.
The couple and their guests were left in shock and dismay, as they had already invested a lot of money and effort into preparing for the wedding and reception.
The church also suspended and fined the couple for breaking its law, which forbids pregnancy before marriage.
But Mr Kennedy and his wife did not give up on their love. With the support of their friends, family members and in-laws, they quickly found another church in Enyimba city that was willing to wed them based on its own constitution.
The new church (name withheld) accepted the couple as long as they had completed their traditional marriage rites.
The couple was overjoyed to finally exchange their vows and become husband and wife in the new church. Their friend, Uche Simeon, said that they were not bothered by the sanctions from their original church and that they were happy to have overcome the embarrassment of the previous Sunday.
The couple’s story has gone viral on social media, with many people praising their courage and resilience in the face of adversity. Some also criticized the church’s decision to cancel the wedding, saying that it was unfair and insensitive. Others expressed their sympathy and solidarity with the couple, wishing them a happy and fruitful marriage.
