Chef Dammy Applies to Guinness World Records After Completing 120-Hour Cookathon
Nigerian chef, Damilola Adeparusi, popularly known as Chef Dammy, has applied to the Guinness World Records after completing her 120-hour cookathon in Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti state.
The chef, who embarked on the cooking challenge on June 9, 2023, finished on June 13, 2023, amid cheers and criticisms.
Chef Dammy’s cookathon was initially met with skepticism and confusion by many Nigerians who wondered if she had followed the proper procedure to break the existing world record for the longest cookathon by an individual. The record was held by Hilda Baci of Nigeria, who cooked for 93 hours and 11 minutes in May 2023.
The Guinness World Records confirmed to Legit.ng on June 14, 2023, that Chef Dammy did not apply before starting her cookathon and did not receive the detailed guidelines and evidence requirements that are necessary for verifying a record attempt.
However, on June 16, 2023, the Guinness World Records told Legit.ng that Chef Dammy has now made an application and that they will review her evidence quickly. They also said that it is possible to submit evidence after a record attempt has been completed.
“I can confirm that Chef Dammy has now made an application.”
“We will ensure she understands the process and method to submit the evidence. We will then review this quickly, GWR PR manager,” Madalyn Bielfeld told Legit.ng.
Chef Dammy also reacted to the reports on her cookathon and clarified that she did not cook for Guinness World Records or to be a record holder. She also said she was not competing with Hilda Baci. She told BBC Yoruba: “I just love cooking.”
Chef Dammy’s cookathon attracted a lot of attention and admiration from Nigerians who praised her courage and passion. She cooked various dishes from different Nigerian cultures and ethnic groups during the challenge. She also received support and encouragement from celebrities, politicians and well-wishers.
Chef Dammy is a professional chef and caterer who runs a catering business called Chef Dammy’s Kitchen. She is also a food blogger and influencer who shares recipes and cooking tips on her social media platforms. She is passionate about promoting Nigerian cuisine and culture to the world.
