Buhari reacts to the killing of Owo church worshippers by gunmen

President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the heinous killing of worshippers Sunday at the St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, Owo Kingdom, in Ondo State.

Newsflash Nigeria had reported that Scores of worshippers, including children, died on Sunday when some gunmen invaded St Francis Catholic Church, Owo, the hometown of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State.

Some worshippers also sustained various degrees of injuries.

It was learnt that the incident happened in the church, which is less than 200 meters away from the Palace of Olowo of Owo.

According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen stormed the church while service was going on and opened fire on the congregation.

But in a statement released by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the president mourns the dead and condoles with their families and the Ondo State government.

The President says only fiends from the nether region could have conceived and carried out such dastardly act, adding that eternal sorrow awaits them both on earth here, and ultimately in the hereafter.

President Buhari mourns the dead, and condoles with their families, the Catholic Church, and the Government of Ondo State, charging emergency agencies to swing into action and bring succour to the wounded.

“No matter what, this country shall never give in to evil and wicked people, and darkness will never overcome the light. Nigeria will eventually win,” the President says.
