Buhari Has No Anointed Presidential Candidate – APC Northern Governors

The Northern All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors have disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari has no anointed candidate among the 23 presidential aspirants of the party.

Briefing newsmen after a meeting with President Monday at the State House, Abuja, Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum (PGF) and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, said the President had not anointed any of the aspirants as the flagbearer of the party.

He stated that the President told the delegation “I have no anointed candidate among the aspirants”.

According to him, President Buhari has requested the APC governors under the aegis of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) to have a meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to resolve the issue of consensus candidate through democratic means.

He said the meeting with the NWC had been slated for 5 pm Monday.

Lalong, who was flanked by 12 other governors, said they told the President of their decision to ensure that power returns to the South for the sake of equity and unity of the country.

Meanwhile, the national chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, announced the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan as a consensus presidential candidate.

Adamu made the announcement at the meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) on Monday in Abuja.

Other aspirants including Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Dr. Kayode Fayemi and David Umahi, among others will, however, be allowed to contest the primary at the convention holding tomorrow at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

The NWC members insisted other aspirants must be given a level playing ground to compete.

Adamu’s adoption of Lawan as a consensus candidate is against the position of 11 APC northern Governors, who endorsed that power must shift to the South after President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.

Adamu told the National Working Committee that he arrived at the choice of Lawan after consultation with President Buhari.
