President Muhammadu Buhari has extended the tenure of service chiefs.
This approval was confirmed by the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, who in a statement signed by his Public Relations Officer, Colonel Tukur Gusau on Monday said that the decision was made after the President carefully reviewed ongoing military operations nationwide.
“The President’s action came after having carefully reviewed the ongoing military operations across the nation and the efforts of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Service Chiefs in the counterinsurgency operations in the northeast coupled with the security situation of the Niger Delta region,” the statement read.
Colonel Gusau added that the extension is in pursuant to the powers conferred on the President in section 218 (1) and (2) of the 1999 constitution.
