Budget 2019: Yahaya Bello Presents N146.7bn To Kogi Assembly
The Kogi state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has proposed N146,736,042,510 budget estimate for 2019 to the House of Assembly.
The proposed budget witnessed a 3.26 percent decrease from the N151, 677,854,494 approved for year 2018.
The Governor said the appropriation bill has a Recurrent Expenditure of N71,841,314,458 representing 48.96 percent and Capital Expenditure of N74,894,728,051 representing 51.04 percent.
He said the proposed bill, which is tagged budget of consolidation, was carefully projected to allow government build on previous successes and lay foundation for new projects.
” In addition to earlier stated reasons, inherent in the reduction is a tactical move to match new indicators released by the World Bank which determine access to budget supporting funding,” Bello added.
He explained that in the proposed budget estimate, the education sector has an increased funding of fifteen percent.
The governor added that the appropriation bill was carefully designed to stimulate economic activities, increase the revenue base of the state as well create wealth and reduce poverty.
Earlier, the Speaker, Prince Matthew Kolawole urged the governor to ensure full implementation of bills passed by the house to block leakages and waste in the system.
While appealing to the governor to constitute the members of the assembly service commission, Prince Kolawole directed members to take their oversight functions with all seriousness to ensure government gets value for its money.
