Manchester United suffered a second loss of the season on Saturday evening after falling to Brentford 4-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Erik ten Hag’s tenure as manager began on a terrible note last weekend, losing at home to Brighton and Hove Albion, and he would have been hoping for a reaction today against ‘The Bees’ away in West London.
Goalkeeper David de Gea was at fault as the hosts shot to the lead after just 10 minutes through a Josh Dasilva shot that found its way into the goal under De Gea’s armpit.
Eight minutes later, Mathias Jensen doubled the lead for the hosts, pouncing on a loose ball after some good pressing on a goal kick.
Brentford’s third goal came off a corner kick. Ivan Toney was first to it with a header directed towards defender Ben Mee, who calmly glanced his header into De Gea’s net to open his account for his new club.
Brentford capped a scintillating 25-minute period with Ivan Toney being provider again, this time for Bryan Mbeumo, who slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.
Manchester United looked better in defence after the half-time break, but the result now leaves Erik ten Hag and Manchester United with a lot of work to do for the rest of the season.
