BREAKING: UK government orders another lockdown over rising COVID-19 cases
The United Kingdom (UK) has gone into a fresh lockdown to stop the continued increase in COVID-19 infections.
British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, on Monday, January 4 night, announced the new restrictions which he said take off in 24 hours and are expected to last until March
Over 50,000 new of coronavirus cases were recorded in the UK on Monday.
In a live broadcast on Monday evening, Mr. Johnson urged citizens to stay at home as the government combats the new strain of coronavirus ravaging the country.
“We now have a new variant of the virus and it’s been both frustrating and alarming to see the speed with which the new variant is spreading”, Mr. Johnson said. “The government is once again instructing you to stay at home.”
Mr. Johnson added that all schools will remain close while schools to adopt remote learning until February.
“Primary schools, secondary schools and colleges across England must move to remote provision,” Mr. Johnson said.
Globally, over 85million cases of coronavirus have been reported, while over 1.8million persons have died as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
