A truck otherwise known as a tipper on Monday killed two police officers on a stop-and-search along Ado-Iworoko road in Ekiti State.
The incident which occurred in the Olawuwo area of Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State capital caused panic in the area.
Witnesses say the two persons who were police officers were hit while on a motorcycle by a tipper lorry at a turning point around Olawuwo.
They alleged that the driver of the tipper lorry who ran away immediately after the accident occurred must have drunk driver having veered off his lane to run over the victims who were said to be heading to work.
Some of the witnesses who spoke with progress FM said the incident would not have occurred if the lane currently under repair along the road have been completed on time.
They said the U-turn point where vehicles from Ado Ekiti cross over to the other lane from Iworoko has always appeared dangerous to motorists with a call on the state government to expedite the rehabilitation of the road so as to prevent further carnages.
Meanwhile, the two police officers involved in the accident have been reportedly taken to the morgue at the state teaching hospital in Ado Ekiti.
