On the early on Friday, February 14, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu and some National Commissioners are in a closed door meeting at the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja.
Although, there has not been any official statement to why they are meeting.
Newsflash247 online news portal gathered that it was to further study the Supreme Court judgment which sacked the Bayelsa Governor-elect, David Lyon.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voters Education Committee, Festus Okoye on Thursday, said the Commission was studying the judgment.
Recall that, the Supreme Court judgement had sacked the Bayelsa Governor-elect David Lyon and his Deputy, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremieoyo and ordered for the withdrawal of his Certificate of Return and issuance of same to Duoye who came second in November polls.
The apex court in a unanimous decision by a five-man panel of Justices led by Justice Mary Odili held that Degi-Eremieoyo presented forged certificates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The apex court, in a unanimous judgment, declared Sen. Douye Diri of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the winner of the Nov. 16, 2019 governorship election after it ruled that he scored the second-highest number of votes and had the required spread.
